U12 hurling game on Thursday June 23rd

U 12 hurlers had a home fixture on Thursday June 23rd against Kilmacabea. This game had been put back from the previous evening. A strong breeze favoured the Mizen boys in the first half and they applied the pressure from the throw in. Some resolute defending from Kilmac kept them at bay initially, but Sam Coughlan opened the scoring with a goal and a point. Mizen got on top in the middle third with the no nonsense approach of half backs Nathan Burton and Finnian Healy cutting off the supply into the danger area, and James Kelly, Sam Coughlan and Jamie Coughlan supplying the inside forwards, more scores were recorded. At the short whistle Mizen led 4-04 to 0-02. Kilmac now with the elements applied the pressure and scored two goals early in the second half. Stalemate followed for about ten minutes with neither side scoring and both defences on top. Kilmac added a further goal and two points to leave just a goal in it. Jamie Coughlan got Mizens first score of the second half with a point. Then Sam Coughlan took off on a run which ended with him finishing to the net. Kilmac replied with a like score but Sam had the last score pointing a free. Full time Mizen Rovers 5-06 Kilmacabea 4-04 to record first victory.
