CORK HURLING TEAM AT GOLEEN – The Cork U15 hurling development squad will be at the Goleen Community Sports Center on Sunday next July 27th to train and play a match. Present will be the cream of the best young up and coming hurlers from right around the county who will one day go on to represent the rebel county at minor and senior level. This is a great honour for Mizen Rovers club and the realization of a long standing invitation to our good friend Ger Cunningham to bring a Cork squad to Goleen someday. This great Cork hurling legend is head coach to this squad and as part of the day has offered to do a coaching session with other aspiring young hurlers from the area. The Games Development Administrators for the region have recognized the importance of this hurling bonanza for the promotion of hurling in the west of the county and therefore have also decided to hold one of their Monster Hurling Blitzes at Goleen to coincide with the visit of the County team. All in all Sunday will be a festival of hurling on the Mizen and everyone is invited to come along and savour the action which begins at 10am and continues till 2.30pm with main game at 12.30pm.If you wish wear your Rebel colours to bring a real Rebel county flavour to the proceedings.

CUL CAMP 2014 – As we said last week the Field is a busy place these days. No sooner will the Rebel hurlers have left the Complex than an invasion of young sports people will take place. U14 Football – If you read the newsletter on Thursday then take note that theres an U14 football league game V Muintir Bhaire this evening up at the Field.A great way to pass an hour on a summers evening is to come along and watch this talented bunch strut their stuff on the green pasture.

FLAG DAY 2014–All the aforementioned activities impact on the Club funds and so we say a big THANK YOU to all those good people who gave so generously to our collectors on the Clubs recent flag day. We appreciate your support and be reassured it will be put to good use for the young people of our parish. Thank you again.

ROUTE 2 CROOK –Yes, we’re heading towards that time of year again when one of the biggest events on the Club’s calendar takes place. Final preparations for the 2014 running of ‘The Route’ are nearly complete with the event taking place on SUNDAY 17th AUGUST. Start time will be 3pm for the main field of runners and 2pm for walkers and split the distance and the time for the U16’s.Yeah your dead right that’s the same day as ‘The Rebels’ play their hurling semi-final so we might try and tweak the time a little forward to make sure we have every participant over the finish line before the sliothar is thrown in. What nicer place to watch Cork qualify for the Final !!!

“120 CLUB DRAW” – The ‘Rolling Drum’ will be in the Fastnet Bar on this Sunday evening at 9pm to pick out six more lucky winners in our Monster Summer Draw. 500 euro will be given away in 5 minutes flat and you could be smiling for days as a result!!

AND FINALLY even if Garth did decide to fly in, Sure you couldn’t go there now anyway. There’s way too much happening down here right at your own back door. And someone will sing an ould song!!!
