The U 14 hurlers concluded their league campaign at home on Saturday last August 4th against Ardfield with a narrow one point win. The U 18 footballers played their championship quarter final in Castle haven on Monday July 30th against Kilbrittain. The Mizen boys started well and were being driven forward by captain Daryl Connell and Keith Whitley from the back. Shane O’Leary was ruling midfield and Darren O’Donovan was finding openings in the forwards. James Murphy was making the room inside around the Kilbrittain goal, this added up to a tally of 3-02 to Kilbrittain’s 4 points at the half time whistle. The substitutions made at half time seemed to unsettle the side and they struggled to dominate as in the first half. Kilbrittain pushed on scoring 2-02 to 3 points for Mizen leaving the score Mizen 3-05 Kilbritain 2-06 with about six minutes left. The two wing forwards Ryan O’Callaghan and Eoghan Sheehan who had ran tirelessly up and down the field during the game turned over possession in midfield and won a free. This lifted the siege and Darren after winning two kickouts placed Conor O’Driscoll for two goals to put some daylight between the sides. Kilbrittain did reply with a goal of their own to leave final score Mizen Rovers 5-05 Kilbrittain 3-06. They play St Colms in the semi-final. Panel; Brendan Goggin, Keith Whitley, Jed Little, Daryl Connell, Cathal O’Sullivan,Aaron Barry, Shane O’Leary, Eoghan Sheehan, Darren O’Donovan, Ryan O’Callaghan, James Murphy, Craig O’Driscoll, Conor O’Driscoll & Liam Levis.
