Goleen GAA

The first league encounter of the new season for the junior team took place at Goleen Sports Complex on Saturday last. The opposition was Kilmeen, a team that reached the semi-final of the county championship last season and therefore a good crowd to test the progress against. The visitors showed their intent from the throw in and led by 1-2 to 0-1 inside the first ten minutes. Goleen stook to their game plan and with a couple of nice points and a well worked goal only trailed by 1 at the break. Kilmeen again had the better of the early exchanges in the second half and led by 4 at one stage. Goleen again showed the fitness and determination that brought them so much success last year and roared on by the fine crowd of vocal home supporters they drove on. Some great scores from play and a neatly struck penalty from the boot of Patrick Scully they led by a point in the closing stages only to concede a late free to leave the final score Goleen 2-8 Kilmeen 1-11.Well done to all involved and to the ever-present ladies who dished up the after match refreshments to the multitudes.
